Seoul, cherry blossom

15 km

20 km

Today the weather is great! The sun is back and it seems to get warmer and warmer. I plan to walk to a spot where I can see those famous cherry blossom trees. Naver, the local Google Maps has an option that help us spot where they are. Let's try.

I’ve seen few garage door like this. Looks like the colors are the design are made by the city of Seoul. It looks better than a basic solid color and maybe prevent people to think it’s a place where to train as a graffiti artist.

If that’s not a Korean place I don’t know what is it ;-)

I’ve reached the main street which I’ll follow for a little while.

Fancy electric scooter.

Seoul is a mix of tall building and house district.

There is a plaque on the right hand side of that stone that says:

Description of work

Human existence lies in the true union of life and place, and that place, by allowing humans to inhabit it, forms encounters with one another and brings humans closer to the earth.

The earth provides that place to share birth and death, joy and sorrow, and returns once again to his embrace.

Amidst the providence and gentleness of nature, we have lived our lives on this earth, dreaming different dreams for a brighter tomorrow.

This food product is a work that incorporates the IMAGI agricultural technique of the three critical points of human and acquaintance rescue techniques and transforms the surrounding environment into an apartment. Considering that the surrounding environment is an apartment, the intention was to exclude artificial elements by using curvilinear and rhythmic elements to create tension within the uniform and mechanical square space, while maintaining the narrative expression of the human company.

As a tea master, it evokes the curved image of a reclining figure of our country’s people in their old age, giving the viewer a sense of peace and allowing them to find the primal vitality akin to the two mothers that one can feel in nature.

In addition, it expresses the human psyche of dreaming bright and beautiful dreams inside a structure standing firmly on a square dwelling, reflecting the desire to find one’s sanctuary throughout the long history of mankind.

Waiting for the bus

Finally, I’ve decided to keep walking. I think I missed the bus I was waiting for. I’m off the main street this time.

Typical hilly Seoul district :-)

That road is so steep.

Each garage door has its own “design”.

That’s a fancy house right there.

No cherry blossom trees…

Ok, well… I’ve reached the point that the app indicated but no trees were blossoming. on the other side of that road there is a park. Let’s have a look then.

There is a kind of ceremony right now and this side of the park is full of cars. When I entered the park, I passed a grand pa who talked to me and pointed to my legs. I think I should not be wearing shorts but I’m not going to participate to that ceremony anyway so that should be fine.

I’m out of the park. I’d like to find some food.

Fortunately, convenient stores are everywhere. These cost less than 5 USD in total.

Walking to another park nearby

I’ve found my spot for a lunch break.

There is a football match right in front.

Lunch time

I’m crossing the Han river.

One lane for walkers, the other for cyclists.

This side of the river seems more active.

There are children learning how to play football.

I left the walking lane for a path closer to the water. It’s also a bit more quiet.

Short break

Ah! Some Koreans playing “medium” golf again. This time they seem to play in straight line.

Folding bike :-)

A moment later

That is a massive church!

I am about to reach the Yongsan Family Park.

There are cherry blossom trees here but most have lost many of there flowers already.

This “hand made in Korea” sculpture has been made with roof tiles.

The name of that park totally reflect the people here. There are many families here.

From that Yongsan Family park, there is an access to the National Museum of Korea. I don’t plan to visit it. I prefer to stay outside.

So far I’ve been walking 6.6km. Now I think I could visit the Seoul tower but it’s a little far so I’ll hop on a bus until the cable car station.

I forgot my Tmoney card at the guesthouse…

Ahlala… I forgot the card in my jacket this morning. The weather being so nice today, I didn’t need my jacket. I had to buy another one for 5000 WON (~3.40 USD).

Walking to the next bus station

I’m finally in the bus, on the way to the cable car station.

Almost there

Ok, not cable car for me (see the queue on the right hand side). I’ll walk it’s better :-)

Finally I see some beautiful cherry blossom trees around here :-)

954 steps! Good exercice :-)

Arrived!

There are a lot of people here.

The northern view.

That’s a lot of locks!

That’s a crazy amount of locks!

The southern view (not the best right now).

The East view.

The Southern view again.

The southern view one more time.

Leaving the summit

I was thinking of taking the bus back to the guesthouse but it just left and the walk down the road seems nice.

Indeed, very nice :-)

One more of many fitness spot. Koreans love those for sure. It’s good!

I’m now on the Namsan sky Forest trail. Namsan is the name of the mountain.

It’s quite nice.

There are plenty of lookouts.

We collected seeds from high-quality pine trees on Namsan Mountain, grew them into healthy young trees, and planted them in collaboration with Jongno-gu, Jong-gu and Yongsan-gu“.

“This is an ecological space in harmony with nature. We reused trees in Namsan damaged by snow and other impacts to create a habitat that attracts birds and insects.

On the way back “home”

What an intersection, wow :-)

I am back to the bus station from where I took the bus earlier.

I am waiting for the 506.

Back to the guesthouse

I’m nearly “home”!

A moment later

I was looking for a cheap place for dinner and found that restaurant. The menu is outside so I took that photo and will eat whatever they give me.

That place is for sure local style.

The food matches exactly the photo. It’s a bibimbap something.
