Today I do a little tour in Thames city. The style is different from what I’ve seen so far. Some buildings  looks almost fake, maybe due to their bright colors. There is many colonial buildings like houses, restaurants and hotels. The main road, Pollen street, passes through all along the city. All the shops are there so it’s really hard to be lost.

I could visit this gold mine but it will be opened in October… What a pity! It looks interesting…

That’s the old library :-). The most fake looking building of all.

And… It’s written clearly on it: Thames school of mines. A museum I guess.

And then… The train station! But… eeh… isn’t it a bit small? Maybe for the tourists? Maybe for small tourists 🙂

What are they doing? Men playing with big toys? Or… A BIG child game for old kids haha. It doesn’t seem to work right now… I would like so see that, later maybe?

Let’s have a break in this park. I could write here :-). I can see on the left hand side of the picture a bright little red bridge for the little train, cool!

Wondering around

A colonial style yellow house 🙂

One of the last hotel in Thames. The city used to have 112 of them during the gold period.

After yellow and red, here is white!

And brown!

What?

I’ve never seen something like this. It’s between “petanque” and bowling. It looks like a very precise game.

The main street.

Another shop.

What do we have over there?

This house is massive and wonderful! Few!

A little while later after I left the city

Finally it’s time to reach the DOC camp in the Kauaeranga Valley before it’s getting too dark.

A little while later after I left the city

Hey this place looks good as well 🙂 It’s not the DOC campsite I was originally looking for but it’s free. I just need to hide myself from the road and it will be perfect.

PS: I won’t sleep inside but around that building. There is lots of perfect grass for my tent 🙂 Good night!

Trying to sleep

I’m not very far from the road but actually cars passing by won’t see me. The problem is dogs again. They must have smell me from a distance and for a good 10 min, they came around and bark aggressively to my tent. Fortunately, they gave at some point but that was quite stressful. Anyway, this time I can sleep…
