Today I’m gonna reach the northern part of Coromandel Peninsula. Luckily, the blue sky is back for at least two days. Perfect! I shouldn’t have to come back by the same road because I will take the Coromandel walkway :-)! Karl (Who is Karl?) did it by walk, I will ride!
Exactly 7:07am and the sun is there. A cool day today!
Aaah! I forget to take a picture of my tent when I came here. So, that was my wonderful place.
As every time, when it’s blue is cold! My hot tea is so good to start this journey.
Finally I’m ready. I changed my tires to climb the mountain haha :-).
Let's go!
I’m going to Fletcher bay to join the track. These 7km are already wonderful!
Wow! I like this road and the view! Few! Keep your sunglasses ;-).
7km later
Fletcher bay I’m here:-).
Few! Nothing more.
Totally green… I recognize this van… The guy was in the same place as me yesterday.
Ok, that’s the beginning of a new adventure. It starts with the first challenge: getting pass this stair case. I guess I need to dismount the trailer.
Let’s have a look to this panel… Ah ok… High lever of fitness required and no side bags. Hoho… I have a trailer so it’s ok for me, let’s go! 🙂
Few minutes later I'm on the other side of the obstacle.
Right after the staircase there was a short and steep slope. I’ve started by pushing my bike… It is gonna be a hard today for sure.
At least there won’t have any car here. That’s a good point 🙂
The view is always as beautiful as this.
One more time with the cheep. It hard to take a pictures of a lamb. As soon as they see me, they run behind their mother pff! “Bande de flipettes! “sorry… it’s really annoying!
And I push and I push… It’s very slippery as well but I have been informed of that.
Arg! My bike is already full of mud. This stuff is very sticky and weighs a lot too!
This mud is really annoying!
This part is horrible! I mean, not the landscape of course but the ground. It’s all mushy, thick and sticky. Hopefully that will end soon.
Some time later...
Finally along coast! The path is much better here. Here we go!
Few! It’s marvelous, breath taking!
I prefer so much this part and the view! The view! You should come!
This is a right place for a break:-). But I need solar cream or I will burn pretty soon.
I come from all the way down there.
This scenery lookout is giant! I’m definitely getting higher :-).
Have a look to the left. Few! There is no wind, it’s warm and quiet. I can hear the smooth sound of the ocean below. Wouhaaaou!
I tried to make a short movie with different videos of the end of this track. It’s fun to do that but alone it’s a bit long hahaah :-). I must put the camera somewhere, cycle a bit and come back to take my camera. The second part shows my muddy bike. I absolutely need to clean it he I don’t want having any problem with my chain again.
Second part of the day
This is Stony bay.
Few minutes later
Good buy stony bay, it was a pleasure :-).
I wonder when this bloody dirt road will end?
Going up hill again
After 2 hours, I’m quite far but I have not arrived yet. The battery of my GPS is empty which is doesn’t help. Normally I can recharge it but last time, when I visited the Pinnacles I give my GPS to the DOC visitor center to charge it. The next day I came back to the office and another person gave it back my computer but I realized to late that they forgot the cable!! I didn’t noticed that because I was happy to take my fully charged GPS! Rah! I certainly must wait until I reach Tauranga to be able to buy a new one… :-(.
Hey! I’m on the other side of that bill hill. Is there any campsite here? No? Not yet? Ok… Let’s go down.
A down hill later
I’ve reached sea level again. The sun is going to disappear soon. Quick quick!
One, two, three, four, five… 25, 26… Ok ok too much!
I hope I’m almost there. I might have 45min left before nightfall.
Getting closer to the DOC campsite
Hey 🙂 that’s the DOC camp. This one seems very modern with those news building.
I should have enough place for my little piece of tent 🙂
Wonderful landscape 🙂
My fancy kitchen 🙂
Dinner is served! See you tomorrow 🙂
