Today I will come back to Ruatoria to Maila’s family. This time I will spend more time at the 1000 meters plateau to take some good pictures of the statues :-).

Yesterday I planed to wake up before the sunrise and go outside to find a good spot but it’s too cold out there! Instead, I took that picture right from the hut’s windows, haha. Good enough :-).

On the other side, the sun’s rays softly caress the hills.

Getting ready

Ok, I’m ready now. Last look to my wonderful freezing hotel 🙂

10 min later, I reach the perfect carvings circle where I left my bike yesterday. Is it still there?

Yes it is 🙂 Phew!

Let’s go for a visit. 9 sculptures were carved for the millennium. They tell the story of the Ngāti Porou ancestor Māui (Wiki), who fished the North Island up from the sea. Hikurangi (booking) was the first piece of land to emerge, and became the sacred mountain of Ngāti Porou (Source).

Last souvenir shot :-).

Down hill time

It’s time for downhill! Let’s go!

Whoops! Wrong timing.

A bit far but better 🙂

Going downhill

Is this plane spreading fertilizer ?

Here is the bridge. I’m not so far.

Going down hill is way faster (obviously). I’m already nearby the bridge.

That’s the base of the plane where it fills up with whatever product.

I’ve reached the main road again. I’m going to continue my little trip to back to Ruatoria. See ya :-).
