Today I continue my trip. I had a great time with you Maila, Caila and Ramai :-). I need to open my eyes a bit more, take a shower, finish packing my stuff and I will hit the road again!
Thank you guys for the fun times :-).
Back on the road
Surrounded by grass, trees, sheep, cows, birds and sometimes flat possums :-).
I’m now in Te Puia Springs (Wiki). I asked the reception of this building if I could buy a permit to be able to camp on the beaches along the way but the woman refused because I don’t carry chemical toilets… I don’t have any dollars with me anyway. Ok then, I will see what happens.
Further South
This is Tokomaru bay (Wiki).
Another one of these amazingly located empty skate park.
This beach is huge and no one seems interested.
Tokomaru bay (Wiki) feels quite remote. There is some old “USA western” looking empty shops and few houses around. Not much seems happening around here.
The color of the water is breath taking!
Hilly part
After Tokomaru bay I climbed a very long slope. The temperature increased every minute: 25°, 26°, 27°!… Hey GPS, what are you doing? Are you expecting me to collapse along the way? 28°!!… Hey, stop! 29°…, 29.6°. Okay I need a rest…
Break time
Tolaga bay (Wiki) is not far away now.
Black sheep! Maybe they used to be white but with that sun…
Yes! I’ve reached my destination for today :-).
This the main inn of Tolaga bay, an old colonial building.
Another huge empty beach.
It is hard to see on this picture but over there stands the New Zealand’s second longest wharf. I’m going to visit it.
This day is so clear and warm! Summer is getting closer 🙂 I will ride at night in few week if it keeps getting hotter every day ahah.
These sheep have an original way to eat grass effortlessly :-). That might be the “East coast style” haha :-).
It total length is 660m! This wharf was used for commercial exchange until 1960. Since then it condition gas been getting worst.
The district counts on donations to repair it little by little.
Walking to the end
Almost there.
The wharf is situated outside of the city. I think I will come back later in the area to plant my tent somewhere.
On the way to the lookout
I’m going up to the lookout. Apparently we can see the wharf from above.
These yellow sticks remind me of another place… Ah yes! Hikurangi mountain 🙂
Wow! That’s an impressive point of view!
Wow wow wow!
A wonderful panoramic view! I think I’m going to sleep at the other end of that beach tonight.
A camouflage spider is hidden in that shot. Do you see it? :-).
I’ve walked a bit farther to find a better scenery lookout but the previous one is way better.
Going back
Earlier this afternoon I was on the other end of that beach. I might be able to sleep there tonight even though I don’t have the required permit. But first I want to check more closely.
Some time later
The sun is gone. I think I can set up my tent now. I’m not allowed to camp here but there is anybody around and it’s so quiet. The only overwhelming sound here are the waves behind me.
Surprise
Later on a van with two adventurers roamed around to find a place. They finally stopped here because, I think, I was there. I hope we won’t have a bad surprise tomorrow morning if the police comes… we will see 🙂
A while later, two more cars came and parked on the other side of the building where I was sleeping next. They stayed for a little bit, listen to some music until around 10pm and then they left the place. That spot feels safe enough to me :-). Good night.
Hey Dam !
You’re back on road again ! C’est super ! J’écris en french car je ne sais pas comment changer la langue sur mon téléphone… comment to te sens de quitter cette famille qui t’as accueilli pendant près de 2 semaines ? Si je me trompe pas? Super photos ! En tout cas comme toujours ! Par contre j’ai pas trouvé l’araignée 🙂 bon voyage ! On pense a toi !
Max
