The weather today is ideal for a bicycle tour. This time, I want to find some higher places to appreciate Auckland with another point of view. Let’s start with Mount Eden.
One way.
At first I could not find the road leading to the summit so I had to walk through a steep path.
A little while later, I’ve joined the road and few strokes later I finally reached the top of Mount Eden which is one of the 80 volcanoes surrounding the area.
Auckland city center.
Looking south-east towards One Tree Hill.
I will visit that hill soon I think.
We can see in the background the young volcano (Rangitoto island) I discovered 3 days ago.
Beautiful weather today!
“Do not enter crater” says this sign.
My brand new bicycle ready for a long adventure 🙂
On more picture of that crater before I leave.
See you Mount Eden.
Leaving mount Eden
After the descent of the mount, which took way less time than the ascend, I’m now on the way to Mary’s road, apparently know as the French district of Auckland. There are only few french businesses there, nothing big as I imagined.
I was just curious to know how would look a French suburb here. Actually there are very beautiful houses around here.
The city center of Auckland is not very big. I wonder why it is not busier while there is plenty of roads that gives access to it.
Cycling around until dinner
This evening, I was invited by relatives of a friend I met in Paris. We had dinner in a bar. We were only few centimeters away from the musicians comfortably tucked in a sofa. Thank you to both of you for this evening 🙂
Later on, I cycled back to my campsite at night time under a thin layer of rain. “Ouch, I cannot way to be in my sleeping bag because I’m freezing right now!” Even now I see some Kiwi wearing short and t-shirts! These people are crazy! “Hey, ladies and gentlemen, this is winter, youhou? you are supposed to feel cold right? no? ok… Usually I don’t feel cold so easily but here is another lever for sure!
Did I say “Kiwi“? Yop. It is a nickname given to the New Zealanders and they are proud of it 🙂 It’s also easier to pronounced in my case ahah, so it’s a win win.
