Good morning, I woke up at 7am (I’m getting better and better at it 🙂 to have the time to visit some places this afternoon! I’m ready to leave even if I have too much food to carry… Today is a 39km trip and the weather is gorgeous!

Fairly easy ride today.

My trailer is full!

The weather is perfect, the road is quiet, this day is really nice:-)

Few! This slope is so perfect to make the speed record of the day. It is steeper than it looks like on picture. Let’s go! The head in the handlebar, the eyes toward the white marks of the road to keep the good direction and the ears focused on the rear to be ready if a car comes.

35…40…47…55…61…66… Fzzzz! Something dropped off the ground!… It’s… my camera! Ouch! Let’s go back and get it.

Ok, all good, It semi hard shell protected the camera perfectly and my record is…67.8km! Cool :-).The weather is perfect, the road is quiet, this day is really nice:-)

I can see my final destination and we are just separated by a long down hill, pretty rewarding! My camp must be situated on the left side of that beach, nearby that bump.

Matauri bay is a very little village. There is something like 30 houses. The people in New Zealand like to personalize their letter box. I’ve seen many more until now.

Just in front of the sea 🙂 yes!

Installing the camp

Rah! Very crowded here:-)

A snack front of a wonderful view.

That dog came around during my lunch. It is very friendly and way to0 fast!

I don’t have any time to eat because each time I throw the branch for him, he drops it back in less that 5 second haha 🙂

While I was playing with the dog, a man came suddenly behind me with a question :

  • Hey, do you want a piece of fish?
  • Hmm, yes why not :-)
  • The fisherman gave me directly the piece of fish and said:
  • It’s a snapper, it’s fresh. I fished it this afternoon.
  • Ho, thank you very much!
  • Do you know how to cook it?
  • I think I do :-)

Wow, this guy is so gentle! I have already too much food but I can’t refuse such a gift 🙂 Let’s throw that stick as far as possible so I can run away and pack it for dinner.

That should do it until this evening 🙂

I’m gonna go for a walk and in the mean time, let’s have a wider look to that camping area. It is clean and beautiful!

There is a track around here

I’ve heard many time the story about this place but I didn’t remember it was here. Interesting visit 🙂

That’s the view on the other side of this path.

I cannot stop thinking about how beautiful is this place 🙂 The colors are so bright and vivid.

I see a little purple dot on the grass there, my tent.

On the left side of the picture, in the ocean, between the little islands sank the rainbow warrior in 1990 (Wikipedia), the Greenpeace’s boat.

That’s the “Rainbow Warrior Memorial”.

And again. What a view!

A tribute to the Rainbow Warrior and her crew in their endeavours for peace, conservation and a nuclear free planet. Dedicated by the governor general his excellency the most [REVD?]

Sir Paul Reeves

We are in winter and I could almost have a swim but before, a little nap 🙂

Short nap

This plant is called a Melianthus Major (Wikipedia) also called the Giant Honey Flower.

It has a third name which is kruidjie-roer-my-nie (Afrikaans for ‘herb-touch-me-not’). So I better not touch it then 🙂

Magnificent!

On the beach

The right end side of the beach is totally covered of these shells! It’s crunchy under the feet.

Ok. No. The water is way too cold for me… Something like 18°C I think. Perfect for Pierre though :-).

Back to camp!

I’m getting very well organized now. All my stuff has a right place where to go.

Reading time 🙂

I like these trees, there are the same in Australia. It’s remained me Manly, my favorite city there:-). This day is finished and was really good!
