Charleval > Sillans-la-Cascade

90 km

Today has been a long day. The roads are bumpy, there are not many dedicated cycle lanes as there used to be days ago. I guess, that's how the south of France is 😅. I've reached the last department and didn't see many cyclists, maybe one or two maximum. They must prefer visiting some other places, who knows.

6:20 am, I should be packing up and profit from the cool morning.

That place was great. Yesterday night, few people came around but that did not really bothered me. They were happy together and I felt safe.

Starting like I ended the last day on a gravel road.

Dedicated cycling roads are getting more rare. It’s more like a section here, a section there but no long route like in the northern side of France.

That place certainly produces electricity.

Let’s have a short break.

Break time

From a sign I’ve read, eels climb that place to go up stream. Strong eels!

I arrived in Peyrolles-en-Provence.

Brunch time

And that’s Jouques.

The Var, is where Fréjus belongs to. I’m getting close for sure!

The Gendarmerie station of Rians.

I’ve reached Artigues. I’m not sure why the app sent me here. The road is very steep. I pushed my bike quite a few times. But it’s cute.

I’ll have a nap here I think.

It seems no one lives here.

Nap time

Back on a road. It’s hard to tell on the photo but that road is super steep. I keep my speed low otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to stop if that was necessary. I don’t have disc breaks on this bike and I can tell the difference. Better play safe.

Yep, no more dedicated cycle lane for now. Just small country side roads. There are not too busy but here and there I must squeeze myself to let cars pass.

I arrived in Varages and I know there is a water access somewhere. I saved it on Google Maps. I asked for direction and I ended up in the most tricky, thin, steep and full of steps tracks. What are you doing Google ??!!!! Is that a cycling road for you ?! Pff, ok let’s go back and find another road. Google said “best route”, lol.

Finally, I’ve reached Varages which was way above the road I came from. I must say I missed a turn earlier so that must be the reason coming here was harder than it should have been. Anyway, the water access is on the left hand side behind the trees. Something tells me that it’s going to rain soon! Really?

I’m having a break nearby a place where I can take cover in case the rain come but so far not much rain.

Few rain drops…

Okay, the clouds looked very heavy but in the end, I did not get much rain so I continue.

Second tunnel of the day, cool 😊.

A little while later

I finally arrived in Sillans-la-Cascade. There is drinkable water and public toilets on the side of this building. Nice.

I’m gonna have a fruit or two, then take a shower in the toilets, then set up my camp for the night.

Busy

Camp is set up. I feel fresh. This should be a good night. It’s 9:04 pm but I won’t last very long I think.

Il va vraiment falloir faire quelque chose pour les cyclistes dans notre région. Hier, nous nous sommes cassés le nez devant un joli petit camping en bord de Rhône. La patronne, pas très aimable, nous adit qu c’était reservé aux vélos!
