Olargues > Labruguière

68 km

Today was a physical day. We expected to mostly go downhill but actually we did the first 24 km uphill. The green way was often sandy and we were facing the wind. Around 4 pm, it started to rain a little and the temperature dropped significantly.

Last night was windy but quiet. Early this morning, while we were about to wake up, I hear a sound of a electric blind going up following by a bright cold light. Someone inside the building just opened it. I can see all the way through a long corridor. That helped us to hurry packing our stuff 😁.

Packing up

First step is the bakery.

Breakfast

We start the day visiting Olargues (site) described as one of the most beautiful village in France. Some building have those slates mounted on one of its facade. It seems to have a certain utility (maybe heat in winter).

Nice little street with lots of plants.

We parked the bicycle within the village so we can visit the clock tower.

Windy!

Some time later

Back on the road.

Steep hill coming.

Almost each time we see a cemetery, we refill our water. Easy 😁.

That is a strange bridge.

We go through a lot of tunnels today.

We arrived in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières. We gonna buy some groceries for lunch time.

These saucisson are very delicious (and expensive).

A piece of cheese too.

Let’s do a short visit of that town starting with the cathedral.

The Hotel de ville.

Last stop at the bakery before leaving the town.

Some time later

Lunch is ready.

Lunch break

We keep riding on the old railway which is called La Voie Verte (the green way).

More tunnel. This one is very long.

After about 24 km of uphill we are finally going to go down hill, finally!

The weather is turning grey.

Some time later

We are reaching Mazamet.

Back in McDo for a little white. It’s now raining slightly.

Waiting for the rain to stop

Finally, we left McDo around 5:00pm and arrived in Labruguière roughly an hour later. Max drinks beer while I get a hot chocolate.

Drink time

While having a drink, Max found on Maps a park with a lake just outside the village: the Parc d’En Laure.

It’s big! There is water, toilets, it’s clean, not many people and many trees. We plan to sleep here tonight, for sure.

We have diner under the last rays of the day.

Diner time

Now we are full we came here, at the south end of the parc to set up camp for the night. That is the best spot we found so far. Good night!
