Auckland > Takapuna, departure to the north

Ok, today is a totally different story. I woke up at 8am and after a long, too long preparation, I left the campsite Avondale at noon. It took me 4 hours to pack everything which is definitely something I will have to improve otherwise I will never go anywhere. The first thing I had to do this morning was to activate my bank card I received only yesterday. I took more than a week. I did not plan to stay that long in Auckland but the bank forced me to stay.

I don’t remember exactly the road I took that day but if I had to do it again, I would try to cross by ferry towards Baywater and avoid cycling all around like a dummy.

So here I am, I’ve been cycling for 7 hours now. I’ve lost my way 2 times. I was trying to follow the high way to get out of the city as fast as possible but the road made me cycle 3 times the distance as it turned around and around, and up and down. In the end I feel I haven’t leave the city yet. It is a little bit discouraging to have done not that many km in such a long period of time. Something more, I bought a lot of food, I think too much food. I need and will adjust in the future. I left the airport with 27kg in total (without the bike) and I must have another 10kg extra right now. To end that day in the best way possible (sarcastic) I found a campground in Takapuna where the manager asked me $30 for one night, wow! I thought the motor park from where I came from this morning was expensive ($18 per night). Then the guy adds “Normally the price is $42 but you arrived late”. Oh… ok, should I say thank you?! lol. Tomorrow I must leave my spot at 10am. Ok, ok, nice to hear all those nice informations.

I pitched my tent on an uneven ground filled with rocks and then I started to feel depressed… Fortunately the shower was hot. That was the only comfort I’ve had through this day. It is my first adventurous day and I’m confused, I’m thinking of going back. Am I strong enough to cycle all around New Zealand in these conditions? I wonder. After months of planing that would be such a waste to go back that soon. Let’s have a sleep and see how I will do tomorrow. Good night!
