île Barlet > Tain-l'Hermitage

71 km

Today started super well until I lost back to back my scarf and my lock… Sometimes I wonder what I am doing, really. As we say, "never 2 without 3". That saying came true once I reach the first paid campground.

The night was good, quiet. Let’s pack everything and go. Today I’m going to follow the Rhône again. It is going to be mostly flat.

That’s the little bar and single bar on the sor of island.

At first I thought that place was situated in a dead end but actually that bridge makes all the difference. Now I understand why many people seemed to come and go yesterday.

That’s vienne on the other side.

Public toilets, nice 😄.

While I was cycling here I realized I lost my scarf again… Again! Why?! 🙄.

I’ve decided to look for it and went all the way back to there island spot. 7km return + the same to come here again. Unfortunately, this time, I did not find it… 😢. And the worse it while I first unpack my bags to check if it was not inside, I drop my lock and lost it too… Great… That day started so well and now I’m so pissed with myself.

Back and forth

Many vineyards as always.

I’m now in Condrieu.

I passed a local mart on the way and bought some fresh fruits and nuts.

Snack time

Let’s keep going.

Saint Maurice l’Exil. Just a random village.

Let’s stop again for a nap this time.

I was about to fall a sleep when a guy, polite and all, came by and asked me for fire.

Hello, do you have any fire?

Eeeh, nope but I saw a lighter on the ground around the table

The guy checks but it's broken

Sorry, mister I woke you up.

That's ok.

Shortly after that some people came around when I was preparing to leave. We had a short chat and the woman gave me 2 minty sweets 😄. Thank you!

That’s Andancette.

And that’s Saint-Vallier-sur-Rhône.A little stop at a local bakery for a “pain au chocolat”.

I’ve crossed the river again

There are plenty of cherry tree farms in this region.

Ouuuh, they look so delicious! 😊

I’m approaching my destination for today. I planed to sleep in a municipal campground because I want to charge my powerbank (it needs 6 to 8 hours).

Crossing the Rhône again.

That’s the place! I’ll take one night first. I might stay 2 nights if I want to work online tomorrow.

Here is my spot. Setting up the hammock will be tricky as there is only one tree in the middle. First I want to wash my clothes so they will have the most amount to dry in case I leave tomorrow morning.

When I came to the counter, the woman told me I could visit the place first, see if I had everything I wanted. When doing that, I noticed that one of the 4 spots was rented by a french guy who seamed drunk. I did not bother too much.

I went washing all my clothes and when I came back I searched for 2 points where to attach my rope to and then suspend my wet clothes.

Then that drunk guy started to complain that I was taking to much space and he did not want to see my laundry drying in front of him. I told him that I would only setup my clothes next to my spot and he would not see anything. But he kept going on to the point he started to insult me.

Well, I’m far to be violent but that’s not my best day today and that guy started to seriously pissing me off.

Then he asked : Do you speak french? I answered “what’s your problem?” As soon as he heard me he started to insult me in french thinking I did not understand. I kept on trying to fix my rope while he was mumbling front of his tent : “I’ve seen assholes, but you are an asshole of a different level. There are big assholes but you are level red asshole”. 🤣

Once I’ve attached my rope and set just few clothes, I could definitely see that it was way to flexible and it would not work. And then that drunk guy started to be even more annoying. I’ve lost patience and shouted to him back “ok, ok, fine, I’ll remove the rope, I was only trying something. It does work so I remove it. Leave me alone now!”.

Ouhhh sush an ass that guy.

In the end, I figured out a way to attach my rope between the tree and some of my metal stick on the ground. Fine, that works. That drunk guy was still mumbling in the background. “Whooowhoo, that guy comes and think hile is at his home, whowhowho. Asshole whowhowho. 😅.

Once my camp was setup, I went around the campground to see the view on the Rhône. Nothing much special. I feel I see many people, kinda drunk and smoking illegal stuff. That’s not the best place to be for sure.

I think I’ll stay one night only.

As there is only one tree, I manage to reach that campground light through the bush. Hopefully, it does not break and end up into my face while I’m sleeping 😅.

There other issue is that I have that bright light right into my face… I prefer wild camping for sure. No neighbour, no lights, no drunk, easy! See ya 😊.
