Pélissane > Saint-Gilles

70 km

72 km

2 punctures the same day today. One this morning and another (front tire) in the evening. Some days are more challenging than others.

Yesterday, while I was at the restaurant, I checked the spot for the night. That was the most quiet place so far.

Next to a slow stream, very quiet. I slept okay.

Packing

Roughly 30 minutes later, I’m ready to go.

The streets are still quiet for now.

Let’s get a snack before leaving.

Pélissane > Salon-en-Provence

I arrived in Salon-en-Provence when suddenly a loud “psheeeeeeee”. Arg! Is it the fix I’ve done yesterday or one more puncture?

That looks like…

Okay… I guess these tires are too fragile to sustain my weight plus the one of my bag.

Looking for a bicycle shop

While I was swapping the inner tube, a guy passing by on a scooter stopped and came to help. I did not really need any help but anyway, he was too happy to help. Once the bike was back on, he showed me a nearby bicycle shop. I asked if they had a tire for my bike (which are specific). The answer was “no”. My best option was to come back in Aix-en-Provence. Yesterday, I went to a cycle shop where the owner told me he had one tire for my bike. I thought I would not need it so I got only the inner tubes. Mistake… Anyway, I’ve packed my gears and I’m waiting for the bus.

It’s something like 40 minutes to go back. Then, I’ll reach the cycle shop, get the tire, change it and will take the bus back here to continue my trip. I don’t want to cycle the same road twice.

Here we go.

It’s good to be able to fit everything easily.

Heading Aix-en-Provence

I’ll do an extra visit then.

Ah, that photo expo.

“The family of daughters”.

The streets are well more animated than yesterday. We are Saturday though.

Many markets.

The Theatre I’ve seen yesterday.

Swapping tire

And… I’m back to the bus station in Aix-en-Provence. The bus will arrive in 45 minutes. I’ll have lunch.

Heading back to Salon-en-Provence

Back on the road again. It’s 3:00 pm and 35°. I’ll be cycling on a road that goes along the speedway.

Yeah, that’s not the most interesting road but well, here I am.

Still straight, still flat.

Those 2 guys seem to travel as well except they are way faster than me.

Finally, a little more than an hour later I reach Saint-Martin-de-Crau. I’ll have a break.

Break time

Back on the road again.

I’m in Arles. I want to push a little more until Saint-Gilles.

Crossing the Rhône again. I mean again while I was cycling south from Romilly :-)

I’m about the cross the “Petit Rhône” this time.

Back in the country side. I’m roughly an hour away from destination.

I prefer the road. The traffic is not that high and it’s more smooth.

Sh**! Another puncture 😭. What is going on today!

Fixing front wheel

Back again… I’ll arrive later than expected but it’s fine.

Look at what I’ve found in the middle of the road. It looks like new. Actually later on, I found even more on the road. Looks like a kid emptied his/her bag from the window of the car while parents were driving. Curious.

The sun is setting. I’m almost there.

Saint-Gilles!

Cycling around town

I went around town. I wanted to buy a drink. Then I looked for a tap and wash my clothes. On the way to the center, I crossed a bridge and saw this area from the middle of it. I planned to come back here after my chores and here I am.

The spot is super nice and not exposed to humans. The problem is that it’s super windy and there was a party until 1am with loud music. I did not sleep well at all unfortunately.
