Chemin de Halage > île Barlet

90 km

Today is the day I was worried the most about: get across Lyon. Usually, the city itself is fine but the suburb is another story. And of course, happened what happened.

The night was not so bad. Yesterday night, once I was installed, a car passed by. And this morning I saw it again. I guess that woman was also looking for a spot.

This is a little messy. I wish someone had cut the grass before I came 😅 but other than that, it was okay.

Packing my gear

It’s 7:28 am and I’m on the road. Not bad 😊.

I’m going through a small village looking for public toilets but they were locked… Bad luck.

Ah, these seems perfect!

I am reaching La Saône again which I will follow for a while.

Today is mostly flat. It’s good because I’m getting tired a bit.

Let’s have a rest and dry some clothes 😊.

Break time

These areas are the best!

The more I come down the more cyclists I see. Also 80% of them use electric bicycle. That changed quickly!

I am arriving in Trévoux.

Here is Neuville-sur Saône.

I’m looking for a bakery.

Time for refill 😊.

Lunch stop

Let’s keep going after that 1 hour break.

This is Caluire-et-Cuire, the town close to Lyon.

I’m getting close to the city center.

I am definitely approaching the city center.

Here is the city center of Lyon.

Right here there is water fountain. I’ve refilled my bottles.

Time to leave.

Here start the annoying section of leaving Lyon through the suburb. The cycle patha are not so clear and I fill I’m going around and around.

I’m now in the suburbs but I’m not out yet.

What do I see here. A McDo? Let’s work on my blog a little.

Bloggy time

Now starts the trouble. I hesitated between 2 options. Taking a short train ride to get out easily or try to get through this by bike. Future me says ”I picked the wrong option”.

A while later

First I went through an industrial zone. The GPS was sending me to a gravel road while there was a nice clean road on the opposite side of that zone. I chose to go with the nice road and 2 km later I ended up facing a metal fence… Aaaah that was very annoying. I had to come back all the way and choose the gravel path. GPS was right!

Then I came across a bridge passing onto the highway. Then I went through a tiny village and now I am on the side of a hill with the highway on the right hand side.

The highway is just down there.

Hopefully I got through but that was not pleasant.

I’m crossing another bridge now. I’m close to Givors, the city I would have arrived within 10 minutes if I took the TER. Next time!

That’s a late ride again. It’s 8:34 pm.

A while later

On the map, I saw a kind of island with a water spot at the end and a bar place. Maybe it’s gonna be what I need.

Sunset!

Wow! I’m so surprised to see that many people here. The night bar is opened. There are many people having a pic-nic. Kids play around. I guess, soon enough they will all leave and I will have the parc for myself.

I’m setting up my camp at the end of the parc so I don’t worry or bother anyone. The night should be quiet and safe. See ya!
