This morning I have a work appointment at 11am and I know I have few big climbs that separate me from my next "office". Hopefully, I will make it on time.

It’s 7:30am as I hit the road. The sun will rise soon.

In the middle of the first hill. There is some few drops. I hope it’s now going to get worse.

First hill done. Next?

Oh wait! I have water to refill 😄.

Around here, people seem to live in castles only 😅.

I am passing through a village called Borrèze.

New but old style? Fancy!

Second climb of the morning. It’s 9am. I wish I could arrive at 10am but it’s going to be difficult.

Am I up there yet?

Or maybe that’s the top?

Another big stone house.

This one is even made from logs. Canadian? Swiss owner? 😅.

I finally crossed the pass.

Zipping down hill

I’m in Larche. It’s mostly going to be flat, kinda, from to my “office” 😊. I left Dordogne for Corrèze.

Crossing le/la Vézère.

Almost there.

It’s 10:53! I just on time.

Working

I’ve stayed 5 hours at the McDonalds. There is a decathlon nearby. I need to buy some chain lubricant.

That’s what the guy recommended. They have lub for wet, dry or all weather. The guy said “they are all kinda the same”. Sure? Why do they sell 3 kinds then?

Future me here. I should have bought rue dry weather one. It’s, I think, more fluid and less sticky than the one I got.

I’n now trying to leave Brive la-gaillarde but my app is sending to some dodgy road….

Finally on a proper road. I will reach a smaller one sooner rather than later.

Here we go, the climb of the evening starts here.

I haven’t seen the blue sky today.

Am I at the top?

Voutezac is the name of that village.

There are a lot of apple farms in the area.

I was checking google map to search for a spot for the night when I saw a cemetery in that village and potentially trees I could borrow for the night. It was a small detour but her I am.

From the city center I should turn right, climb a little more and …

… Yep, that the cemetery I was looking for. Let’s find the spot for tonight and I will come back later.

Looking for a spot

The trees I saw on Maps are actually inside a private field. I did not want to move further so I opened the gate and well, came in. Shhhhhh 🤫 .

I am not far from the cemetery. I will be able to shower and wash my daily clothes.

There are sheep in this field. For now, they are far away. Hopefully they don’t come around here.

Washing clothes

Here they are! I am trying to “scare” them away but that does not work… Well, whatever. Do what you do sheep.

Resting

I fell asleep for roughly an hour when I woke up because of lighting. There were so many of there, in the distance, but no sound. I though “well, that could be only warm lighting. That happens sometimes”.

Then the wind started to blow consistently. I remember that feeling of “you have only few minutes before the rain hits hard” that I experienced many times in Laos.

I jumped out of my comfy and warm hammock, search for the tarp and started to set it up. Of course, all the ropes were fully tangled which made me pretty nervous.

The wind was consistent and stronger by the minute. I had to get it ready before the rain overwise I’m gonna be completely drenched.

After some time, I finally got it set up. I did another round to make sure everything was sturdy and ready. I came back in the hammock and no rain was coming. Did I do that for nothing?

Not at all. I looked at my weather app (Windy) and saw clouds coming right at me. 10 minutes later, the wind got stronger and the rain started lightly, then stronger, them heavily hit the tarp. I was not sure if, after 10+ years, this tarp was still waterproof but fortunately it did handle the rain perfectly. Some drop hit overhead but that because I did not set it up perfectly and the wind could blow some water in a little. Nothing major fortunately.

Once the wind calm down, the rain continued a little and I finally fell asleep knowing I would not get drench and have an horrible night. All good!
