Vernais > Arquian

115 km

Today I want to do 90% of my trip before stopping at my next office 😊. The road is barely hilly and there are a lot of cycle paths compared to the previous 2-3 days.

It’s 7:20 am. Let’s go. It’s not cold this morning. I wear flip flop and t-shirt again. Nice 🩴.

Still cloudy though.

I’m in Neuilly-en-Dun, closed to Chaumont.

She is not relaxed for sure 😅.

So far, the road this morning is not super amazing. Just fields.

I’ve reached the Canal de Berry again. Blurry photo, oups…

That paths was great until I got further from the village. Then it became this… Big gravels that don’t suit my small wheels. I’ll leave it as soon as possible.

Aaah, so much more comfortable.

This should lead me all the way to the city I’m heading for.

Arrived in Marseilles-lès-Aubigny.

I am now following La Loire.

That’s La Charité-sur-Loire.

Let’s have a break.

I’ve done close to 70km so far.

Another short break is what I need 😅.

None of them would look at the camera… Come one. Just once! 😅

Ah 😁.

Those 2 cyclists are Germans. Are they going back to Germany? No idea.

That’s the bridge I’m gonna cross. I’m almost there. Kinda 85km so far.

Last few hills and I’m there.

Phew! 94 km done! It’s 3:35 pm I’m gonna stay here until 6:30 pm and then look for a spot for tonight around 10-15km up north from here.

4 hours later

I am crossing the city from South to North.

I don’t need to think about catching the train anymore 🙌.

I am at the edge of the city. I plant to cycle to Arquian which is something like 17km away. I will certainly arrive at night.

Some time later

Right after I took this photo, a rather big dog jumped in front of me. He was pretty agressive. On the left hand side, from the field separated by some bush I could head man shouting “sit Rambo, I said sit!”. The dog would not listen.

I was standing behind my bike using it as a obstacle incase the dog would attack. I was sure what he would do, but he kept moving left and right like he wanted to pass the bike to bite. I could see the old man on the other side shouting again and again “Rambo sit!”. The dog didn’t care at all. That old man could not come on the road because of the bush. Hence, he was barely walking using crutches. Crutches in a dirt field? Must be hard indeed.

After a minute or so, once spinning left, once right, I finally moved a little more forward and the dog moved away to the side. I didn’t know if that was a good move but he seemed more scared than anything else. I walked a little more. I heard the man saying “I am really sorry”. I answered him, “it’s okay, good evening” and left the dog behind which stopped barking, finally.

Wow, that was intense. It’s not the first time I ended up in this situation but I did not miss it.

It’s getting really dark now. I better hurry a little. The village is on the other side of a hill that I am climbing now. The road is smooth so I’m moving fast.

One hill later

That last down hill was nice. I set my head light to the max and zipped down all the way to the entrance of the village. I saw a small park on the right hand side and right before a bridge, a washhouse. I stopped in the park first, walked around the parking area and into the washhouse. That will be the best place for a quiet night. I don’t have to set up my tarp which is a plus.

Setting up camp

Almost done. I’ll move my bike where water used to be. Move the bags under my hammock and that’s it. It’s 8:45 pm. I’ll finish writing that blog I started at McDo and sleep.

Tomorrow I will do a shorter day for sure. Today was a little too intense 😅.

See ya!

    Chaumont? Sur Loire alors 😏!
Rambo avait peut être tout simplement peur, et la meilleure défense étant l’attaque… 🤔
